INFORMATION ON THE GRAND FORKS COUNTY JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER IN GRAND FORKS, ND

The Grand Forks County Juvenile Detention Center has a capacity of 9 beds, with a maximum overflow capacity of 14. The facility
is generally short term in nature, but is classified as a Grade 2 facility which allows for a maximum incarceration of up to 90 days.
There are separate male and female wings. School is usually taught from 8:00 AM to Noon weekdays.

The following information is taken directly from an informational handout provided to parents having a child in detention.
GRAND FORKS COUNTY JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER VISITATION INFORMATION:
- Juveniles detained within the G.F. County Juvenile Detention Center will be allowed one scheduled visit daily. Family must call the Center and schedule any visit.
Please call prior to your scheduled visit to advise that you are coming or to cancel (if necessary) your scheduled time.
- Only immediate family, clergy, counselors, trackers, tutors, and attorneys, are allowed to visit.
- Visitation time is dependant upon the availability of the day room and this time will not exceed one hour.
- Visitors are all subject to search. (Note: any passing of contraband will result in loss of visitation at that time).
- Juveniles are allowed to receive a change of underwear, socks, a change of clothing, stamps, and money to purchase items from the commissary.
- Packages, and purses are subject to search and will be held within the office of the Detention Center.
- Cigarettes and tobacco chew are not allowed into the Center.
- Any visitor under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed into the security of the Detention Center.
- Visitations may be ended if staff believes the visit is not in the best interest of the juvenile.
- No food items from home or elsewhere will be allowed to be brought into the Center.
- Shampoos, creme rinse, combs, toothbrushes, and toothpaste are items issued to those detained in custody. (Socks may be requested if the detainee has none).
- Candy bars, beef jerky, juices, cookies, pastries, and pizza may be purchased by the juvenile from the Commissary.
- Incoming mail must be sent to the above P.O. Box Number as no cards or hand delivered notes will be accepted!
- We encourage schoolwork to be brought up to the Center to continue your child in their individual education plan so they do not fall behind.
- We have a Grand Forks Public School teacher available to keep your child on track with his or her schoolwork while detained.
- P.G. movies may be brought into the Center for your child.
- Any questions or concerns regarding your child's stay in Detention may be addressed to Staff or Administrator on a daily basis.
- Medications are your responsibility as a parent to bring to the Center for your child.
- It is your responsibility to contact Juvenile Court at (701) 795-3828 to inquire as to scheduled court times for your child.
- We welcome any input you may want to share regarding your child as we will be providing care, custody, and control until Juvenile Court authorizes release from detention.
